Levels characteristic of the KAZTEST system

1. Elementary level

Characteristics of elementary level

User of the language must satisfy in a limited volume of communicative competence in everyday situations. User of the language should be able to use

- familiar phrases and expressions necessary to carryout concrete tasks.

- to introduce himself and others, ask and answer the questions about place of residence, friends, properties. User of the language must understand not very fast, clear speech of interlocutor, join in exchange with cues and provide the necessary assistance.

LISTENING

User of the language must understand clear and slowly pronounced words must do simple instructions.

READING

User of the language must understand short, simple texts, read familiar names, words, and also simple sentences in the text. ( for example in announcements, simple letters, placards, catalogues )

Reading with the purpose of getting general direction

User of the language must understand familiar names, words in simple phrases, announcements in everyday communication.

Reading with the purpose of getting information

User of the language must understand the main idea of simple informative materials and short elementary descriptions in particular when the texts have a success among reads.

Reading instruction

User of the language must guide short simple written instructions. (For example to go from point X to point Y).

Reading of letters and messages

User of the language must understand short simple personal letters.

WRITING

User of the language must write using the simple phrases and sentences about his place of residence, about place of work and his acquaintance.

2. Pre-intermediate level

Characteristics of basic level

Basic level of communicative competence certifies the skills of the language user to satisfy basic communicative needs in home and public- cultural spheres. User of the language understands the simple sentences and word combinations using often, connecting with the main spheres of life (can give information about himself, about members of the family, about job) and able to carry out tasks for the exchange of information on familiar and routine matters; can retell with simple word combinations about himself and about his friends, characterizes the main aspects of everyday life.

LISTENING

User of the language must understand clearly and simply expressed information in everyday routine situations. (about family, job, transport etc.) do simple requests addressed to him, understand the main idea of short announcements and other information.

READING

User of the language must understand familiar clear short texts. For example, private and business letters, faxes, everyday announcements, advertisements etc.

User of the language must understand short texts, find everyday information interested him in the text.

User of the language must read limited texts, texts using in everyday language and texts concerning the profession.

General reading comprehension

Language user must understand very short simple texts, reading by phrases, understand familiar words and simple phrases necessary for re-reading.

User of the language must understand short, simple texts on familiar topics, containing concrete information, written by everyday or professional language, understand simple texts with the general using in many languages and often using words.

User language must be able to read limited texts of everyday language use and texts relating to the profession.

Reading instruction

User of the language should be able to find information in everyday correspondence, book and short newspaper articles.

Reading letters, advertisements

SPEAKING

User of the language should be able to do short simple report on the familiar themes, answer the questions on report, enter into communication concerning the basic ideas of the discussion, give an interview on the familiar theme asking for repetition and clarification in a conversation, participate in a simple exchange of information, answer the questions about everyday activities, answer the questions about activities taking place and spending time, give simple instruction, advice, ask and offer kinds of goods in the spheres of services, ask travel information, public transport, ask information in the post office, in a bank, in a shop; (about price, type, quantity); make an order doing shopping. express request, ask about time, price, quantity.

3. Intermediate level

Characteristics of intermediate level

User of the language should be able to satisfy main communication needs on communicate with Kazakh-speaking environment understand the main idea of clearly information, expressed literary language on various topics encountered at work, in the study, in free time. User of the language must understand the texts with the information interested his branches, everyday using materials, for example, letters, booklets, short official documents, newspaper materials telling familiar situations and directly characterizing them, accurately complied evidence, personal messages, expressing different sense and desire; should be able to read instruction about using the certain equipment, understand the sequence of the information, arguments, giving in a general form (it is not necessary to understand all parts)

User of the language must understand elementary structure, should be able to find necessary information from long or some short texts must be able to find necessary information, understand simple texts and make a conclusion.

Target reading

User of the language in finding the right information should be able to look through long texts, and also gather information from different parts of the texts or from various texts for the precise assignment. User of the language from everyday using written materials should be able to find necessary in formation, understand it, for example from the letters and short official documents.

SPEAKING

User of the language must understand oral speech, addressing him, but sometimes can ask again, should be able to communicate in mostly typical situations, should be able to make contact with authorities, which can be traveling to foreign countries, should be able to resolve the situation quickly in a post office, in a bank, in a shop, should be able to express statement, request.

User of the language should be able to participate in dialogues on the interested themes (family, interests, work, traveling, daily events and etc.). freely express his thoughts. Should be able to exchange information on abstract themes (culture, films, books, music. etc.), also speak freely on themes concerning his professional activities and to argument his views, must understand contain of the conversation, but can ask again separate words and sentences, when it is difficult to understand what does it mean, should be able to express sense of surprise, joy, regret, interest and can answer them.

User of the language should be able to participate without preparation in the conversations, in clear speech in informal conversation with friends and understand the main part, express personal opinion or understand views of other man, express his opinions on organization activities and solve problems.

4. Upper-intermediate level

Characteristics of upper-intermediate level

User of the language must understand difficult texts on concrete and abstract topics including general content of professional themes. User of the language is able to speak the Kazakh language fluently, not to make difficulties for both speaks, is able to deliver accurate and complete information, can express his opinion, stressing the advantages and disadvantages of the other views, sufficiently able to use words in such spheres as education, culture.

LISTENING

User of the language must understand information on the certain and abstract themes, expressed with established literary norms rate.Must enter into the dialogue with the native speakers without training (national representative). User of the language must understand conversation with difficulties surrounding him is not able to talk simultaneously with several native languages, must enter into the dialogue with the authorities in all situations on the road, business trip.User of the language must understand the main idea of concrete and abstract themes in the region of activity, difficult on the linguistic structure and content, told according to with norms. User of the language must understand the main idea of lectures, dialogues, reports and etc. other difficult linguistic communication concerning to sphere of professional education. User of the language must listen to the messages recorded on the tape and identify the speaker’s attitude to something, use information in the message.User of the language must understand many documental themes and many other themes sounded on the radio and relevant literary norms, may determine the manner and mood of the speaker.Must maintain a long conversation on general topics not paying attention to the surrounding. Must show emotions when talking with the speaker and to express their interest on a particular topic, but can not fully participate with several people.

READING

User of the language must determine the position of the author’s in correspondence, bulk texts, reports on the certain theme in the interested sphere. Must understand that vocabulary helps, and rare terms and idioms difficult to communicate. Must understand letters concerning to his profession and special articles, not concerning his professional sphere (with a dictionary), is able to get information from special date from his professional activities, is able to find information in large texts. Language user meet with miner restrictions in connection with the type and amount of the text, is able to read on demand of task different texts on different speeds and different methods on reading unknown and special texts is necessary a dictionary.

Reading for understanding the general direction

User of the language must viewing large, difficult texts, allocate the important moments, quickly understand the contents of the article and determine the importance of news and volumetric characteristics of professional articles or messages, notes that you go on.

Reading for getting information

User of the language is able to get necessary special information for his professional sphere, able to understand articles which is not his professional activities, sometimes correctly understanding terms, to use a dictionary, must understand articles and messages where reveals the author`s opinions and attitudes to a certain topic.

Reading structure

User of the language must understand simple rules of using equipment.

Watching television and movies

User of the language must understand the program on the current situation and many television news program, understand documental films, direct dialogues talk-show, movies using many dialects.

User of the language should be able to read correspondence on interested questions and understand their main content.

User of the language is able to engage in individual reading by changing the type and speed of reading, depending on the type of the text.

WRITING

User of the language using real or fictitious situations must be able to build a clear concrete text in according to the chosen selected genre, should be able to describe clear and concrete interesting problems, should be able to write opinion about movies, book and play.User of the language able to write essay or a report, characterizing important points and parts, expressing opinion of the language user, able to give mark on different ideas and solving the questions.Should be able to write essay or a report, explaining advantages and disadvantages of the final version, expressing their agreement or disagreement on the development of a position, should be able to collect information and evidence which expresses few opinions.

User of the language must be able to write the correct clear text describing the various issues summarizing information and obtained from different sources.

SPEAKING

Language user must be able to do short and simple message, should be able to express his opinions and tell summary of the short story, article, interview or documental films, should be able to speak without preparation in the professional, free theme, clear, quickly and efficiently determining the ideological link in solving disputes fairly necessary linguistic resources, for example, should be able to explain issues arising in traffic accident, with financial responsibility, should be able to reclaim costs, should be able to conduct a long conversation on general topics, not paying attention to others, should be able to convey emotion when talking with the user of the language and express his interest, should be able to support an interesting conversation with the user language, but is not able to participate in discussions with several people.

5. Advanced level

Characteristics of advanced level

Having a certificate of advanced level of Kazakh language allows to conduct professional activities in Kazakh language in all spheres of linguistic communication as a linguist, interpreter, editor, journalist, diplomat, management, working in the Kazakh language collective. User of the language must understand difficult texts on different topics, able to distinguish the most functionally relevant semantic information reflecting the intention of the speaker, able to spontaneously fluently without expressing difficulties in finding words, to express his thought, effectively and efficiently use the linguistic resources in language communication for scientific and professional themes demonstrate the development of tactics for possession of different models for the information of the text, relationship of linguistic resources and consolidate his items, able to make reports on difficult themes clearly, and in detail making beautiful messages.

LISTENING

Language user must understand the report of the abstract difficult topic at the level of his activity, sometimes can ask some not understandable details.

Language user must perceive the elements of oral speech and stable word combinations, understand a wide exposition of not concrete structure, understand the general content of the dialogue without difficulty on unknown topics, easily perceive lectures, dialogue, discussion, debate, extract the necessary information from the messages on the public places (at the station, stadium) in spite of bad audibility, understand difficult technical information, for example technical records on known products and etc. in detail understand long texts not concerning the spheres of special studying of language.

READING

User of the language must understand different long and difficult texts on social-professional and scientific questions, difficult instruction of using unknown equipment or on description of situations not professional activities.

User of the language should be able to distinguish expression which not presented clear in the text, understand some combinations in difficult texts, interconnection and views.

To the user of the language some expressions should be understandable when re-reading this part of the difficult text, sometimes can use the dictionary.

Reading for general program purpose

Language user must extract main details of long, difficult texts, quickly understand content of the articles, and identify further reading the important part of the text, relevance of reading news or the magnitude of occupational characteristics of the themes, article, and messages.

Reading in order to extract information

User of the language must understand in detail long, difficult texts, understand texts which arise when dealing with friends in school and professional activities, understand some moments of the opinions and interconnection, which presented in the text in an explicit or implicit form.

Reading instruction

User of the language must understand in detail, volume, difficult instructions of using new equipment and implementation of new methods, which concerning or not concerning to the professional activities, in such case will be the opportunity re-reading of not understandable parts.

Watching movies and television

User of the language must understand any letters, messages sometimes using the dictionary.

User of the language should be able to describe as a clear and logical right text, topic selected out of the audience.

WRITING

User of the language can tell in written form about his story and the experience of the work, write an essay on different themes, characterizing the objective and subjective reasons, choosing the ways of solving problems. Should be able to make a plan, opening the content of the theme. Should be able to express the main information on content of the text, indicate the actual of the problem, prove his point of view and give critical mark. User of the language can write conclusion.

SPEAKING

User of the language should be able to describe as clearly and logically right formed text theme chosen out of the audience, maintaining own style.

User of the language should be able to express his thoughts specifying particularly important issue of clearly formed difficult themes, or comments, should be able to develop his position at sufficient level, using the findings and appropriate examples.

User of the language should be able to explain clearly to an interlocutor, detailing the important points of the text on difficult themes, making enough and extensive additional discussions, conclusions and examples.
