CHARACTERISTIC OF LEVELS OF THE KAZTEST SYSTEM

1. GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS OF ELEMENTARY LEVEL OF KAZAKH LANGUAGE KNOWLEDGE (A1)

In elementary level, in the process of communication language user can take part in dialogues related to everyday life, social life, and cultural spheres.

Certificate of Kazakh language proficiency at an elementary level is a result indicator that approaches the basic level of language proficiency.

Language user:

- understands the information spoken slowly and clearly;

- reads and understands the meaning of small texts at an elementary level;

- fills out the sample documents recommended for the elementary level, knows how to  perform written work in accordance with this level (small texts, written examinations);

- may participate in a conversation to receive / transmit information in a question-answer format.

Words and phrases of elementary level are 800 language units.

 

2. GENERAL CHARACTERISTIC OF PRE-INTERMEDIATE LEVEL OF KAZAKH LANGUAGE KNOWLEDGE (A2)

In a basic level, language user in the communication process can take part in dialogues related to everyday life, social and cultural spheres.

In these level, the language user need to use all the language tools for this level to enter into communicative relations (understand, respond, express an opinion).

A certificate of the Kazakh language proficiency in pre-intermediate level is an indicator of the result of learning language.

Language user:

- understands exactly what was said in information, asks questions and answers them;

- reads and understands the meaning of small texts for a this level;

- participates in everyday communications and situations often encountered in professional fields, asks specific questions;

- correctly uses grammatical forms for the this level and can participate in dialogues according to the level;

- can fill out sample documents, perform written work (compose a logically completed short text, a short essay, written work for monitoring).

Words and phrases of the pre-intermediate level are 1600-1800 language units.

 

3. GENERAL CHARACTERISTIC OF INTERMEDIATE LEVEL OF KAZAKH LANGUAGE KNOWLEDGE (B1)

In intermediate level, language user develops his skills and knowledge by participating in communicative process as in dialogues related to everyday household, social, cultural, social and professional spheres and fulfills his specific needs in the official, professional spheres.

Language user must use all language means and means that affect the listener at this level to communicate in official, professional fields (understand, explain, answer, express an opinion, convey information, and complete a thought logically).

Certificate of Kazakh language proficiency in intermediate level is an indicator of the result that leads language user to upper-intermediate level.

In this level, language user will form communicative competencies, corresponding to intermediate level of Kazakh language proficiency, associated with the social, everyday, cultural, social, official and professional spheres.

Language user:

- understands the information heard, seen, listened (including received through the media) and transmits this information, completes thought logically, participates in dialogue and exchange of views about the content of this information;

- reads, can analyze mid-level texts, understands their contents;

- understands, can analyze adapted short texts containing specific information with everyday and professional content;

- correctly uses grammatical forms for intermediate level, participates in dialogues corresponding to the intermediate level;

- can fill out documents and perform written work corresponding to the intermediate level.

Words and phrases of intermediate level are 2200-2500 language units.

 

4. GENERAL CHARACTERISTIC OF UPPER-INTERMEDIATE LEVEL OF KAZAKH LANGUAGE KNOWLEDGE (B2)

In upper-intermediate level, language user can participate in communication freely and satisfy his communicative needs related to everyday household, social, political, official-business and professional spheres.

It is necessary to use grammatically, stylistically correct full lexical units in this level for communication (to understand, explain, answer, express an opinion, transmit information, to be able logically complete a thought, evaluate, analyze, summarize) in these areas.

A certificate of Kazakh language proficiency in upper-intermediate level is an indicator of the result that leads language user to advanced level.

In this level, language user forms communicative competencies that corresponds to upper-intermediate level in communicative situations in everyday household, social household, public household, socio-political, official-business and professional fields.

Language user:

- understands, explains the information listened, seen, heard; transfers, evaluates, analyzes, supplements and summarizes information; conveys a logically complete thought; participates in a dialogues of question and answer format, exchanges views;

- reads, understands the meaning and completely retells texts intended for a upper-intermediate level; understands texts with specific information of daily, social and professional orientation and with terms and terminological verbal turnovers related to a specialty, a profession, can find the information necessary for his specialty, can determine the problem indicated in the text; explains, describes actual problems in his professional sphere, can clearly and reasonably express his opinion on ways to solve them;

- draws up official business texts using terms and their combinations related to the specialty on topics of upper-intermediate level;

- takes part in the conversation according to this level, maintaining stylistic features and correctly using grammatical forms, lexical language units of upper-intermediate level;

- understands, retells the meaning of official documents corresponding to upper-intermediate level; can perform written work corresponding to this level.

Words and phrases of upper-intermediate level are 3000-4000 language units.

 

5. GENERAL CHARACTERISTIC OF ADVANCED LEVEL OF KAZAKH LANGUAGE KNOWLEDGE (C1)

In advanced level, language user can participate freely in speech acts, in situations related to all areas (social, political, official business and professional) of social and labor activity without prior training.

Language user can use literary lexical and grammatical language units of contemporary Kazakh language appropriately during participation in a speech act (understand, explain, answer, express an opinion, convey information, to complete a thought logically, supplement, evaluate, analyze information, summarize, prove his idea, suggest solutions) and can compose relatively voluminous, meaning-related text.

Certificate of advanced level is an indicator of a result closer to proficient level of language proficiency in Kazakh language.

At this level, language user forms communicative competencies that correspond to a advanced level in communicative situations of social, political, official, business and professional spheres.

Language user:

- fully understands, explains perceived, seen, listened, read information and transfers, evaluates, analyzes and supplements, summarizes information, knows how to express a relatively complex, logically complete thoughts, participates in discussions on various topics and proves his thought;

- understands the information and analytical programs heard through mass media, determines the meaning of unfamiliar words and phrases in context, determines the contradiction of opinions, evaluates the argumentativeness of opinions, offers his position by bringing arguments (explanations, reasons, arguments, examples, facts);

- collects information, data related to their professional field, analyzes, groups the problems, describes, explains the main aspects of the chosen topic, suggests solutions;

- makes public announcement;

- talks freely in accordance with this level, competently using lexical units of language,  advanced level grammatical forms and preserving style features;

- understands, narrates the content of official documents corresponding to advanced level, knows how to perform written work in accordance with advanced level.
